Cologne Night of Museums - A festival celebrating the Arts

In celebration of the art and cultural scene, the Stadtrevue Verlag in cooperation with the City of Cologne cordially invites you to stroll through museums, art locations and off-spaces for the 19th time since the year 2000. With more than 200 events taking place in 45 locations, Cologne shows off its most creative side until the early hours of the morning.
Exhibitions, live concerts, readings, theatre performances, comedy and DJ sets - the Night of the Museums offers an extraordinary festival programm including four shuttle routes that connect all participating venues and which visitors are able to use for free.
Have you always dreamt of wandering through Wallraf-Richartz-Museum at night? Or of peeking inside mesmerizing Kolbhalle? You don't have a clue what Strizzi is? And would love to experience a concert in the ruins of what used to be a Roman palace? Then the Night of the Museums is your perfect match!
Throughout the entire night, chosen art locations - from renowned museums to subcultural off-spaces - open their gates exclusively inviting visitors to experience the city from a different perspective.
FOR YOUNG ART LOVERS

The Night of the Museums offers a wide variety of options for youngsters: Special guided tours along photography, through godly worlds or historical harbours. Fans of DIY culture will not be disappointed either - creative workshops deal with toy-upcycling, making individual jewelry or crafting Chinese lampions.
To calm down at a later hour, shadow puppetry is ideal!

➤ Further information about these and more child- and family-friendly adventures can be found in our program on page 9!
THE MUST-SEES
How is it possible that nowadays a t-shirt is cheaper than a large cup of coffee, a dress costs as little as an ice-cream bowl, a pair of jeans only as much as a cinema ticket? The exhibition »Fast Fashion. The Dark side of Fashion« at Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum looks critically at the textile industry and focuses on the social and ecological aftermath.
Museum Ludwig's »Painting to the Point« presents 120 of Gabriele Münter's works, many of which have never been exhibited before. Born in 1877, Münter was a co-founder of the group »The Blue Rider«, thereby playing a vital role in the development of German expressionism but also merits to be recognized for her importance and independence as an artist.
»Pop goes Art« The MAKK - Museum of Applied Arts brings a very complete private collection of Andy Warhol's vinyl covers to light. Visitors have the chance to see his designs in full - including sketches and drafts. The Cologne City Museum travels back in time to the late 1960s with its exhibition »KÖLN 68! Protest. Pop. Provokation.« Featuring time pieces, film excerpts and interviews with contemporary witnesses, it traces the revolutionary spirit from half a century ago.

NEWCOMERS OF THE YEAR
On squeaky wheels back to the past: With the help of Virtual Reality, TimeRide VR Cöln takes you to Cologne around the turn of the century aboard tram including simulated shaking and airstream!
Meeting point: Every 20 minutes at Alter Markt 36 - 42.
For thos who love perfumes of the past: At House of 4711 you will find out how the Original Eau de Cologne went from Aqua Mirabilis to the global phenomenon, why some drank it and what's the story behind the mystical name of the brand.
Also a rookie in this year's Night of the Museums is the Kolbhalle - a place of desire for artistic freedom. Visitors can literally "dive" into the oasis. Ateliers show the accumulation of treasures telling decades of Ehrenfeld's history and an installation made out of everyday-life-findings.

JEWELS OF THE PROGRAM
Lo Buglio Vincenzos trademark is his wild and untamed voice: His trio »Terra Profonda« is travels all the way from Budapest exclusively for the Night of the Museums to play at the Romano-Germanic Museum.
At NS-Documentation Center, »Schwarzpaul«, a band from Dortmund proves that Reggae sounds good in German, too and invites you to dance to heavy-weight offbeat rhythms.
Last but not least: At Wallraf-Richartz-Museum, the KimchiBrot Connection is fighting its way through the physical theatre performance »Living Happily Ever After« which is a humorous but deep piece aiming at the nature of modern relationships. Who and how do we love? And what are we looking for, romance or absolute freedom?
